Harold A. Todd Jr. Unit #537
This article originally appeared on the National American Legion Auxiliary web site in August 2004.
Diana has been a member of her Unit for 17 years, and has served her Unit as Chaplain, Home Service Volunteer, and as a Committee Chairman for various activities. On the District level, she has served as First Vice President, Membership Chairman, and Junior Activities Chairman. On the Departmental level, she serves on the UD&R Committee. Her eligibility in the American Legion Auxiliary comes through her father, Ronald Kaun, who was a Korean War veteran.
Diana is very motivated and is an inspiration to all of those that come into contact with her. As Unit President, she has prepared a Plan of Works for each of her Chairmen that are excellent. In turn, each month the Chairmen prepare a report for the Unit meetings with activity ideas that are often acted upon. Her Unit yearly report reflects this work, and awards won by her Unit are numerous.
Diana was a part of the UD&R team for 2003-2004. She was working on setting up meetings for revitalizing and developing Units in the Milwaukee area, which is a great need for our state. Her UD&R training has strengthened her beliefs that the American Legion Auxiliary will continue to grow. She strives to continually work with the Units to keep them active and build the American Legion Family.
Diana had this to say about what her Auxiliary membership means to her: “When I first became a member 17 years ago, I really didn’t have any idea what the organization was about. But following my Dad and Mom’s example of hard work and dedication to the Legion and Auxiliary, I eventually became involved in many Unit activities. The more I learned about the organization, the more involved I wanted to be. Now, many years later, I want to share with others what a great organization I am a part of. In some small way, I want to contribute to my Unit’s success by organizing new activities, promoting the Auxiliary programs, and getting more members involved. Being a member of this great organization has given me the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people who share the goals of helping our veterans and the community as well.
Nothing good happens by accident. Plans need to be developed; goals need to be set. Finding out just what motivates each member is vital to success. Above all, working together and enjoying what you are doing is the key to a productive Unit.”
Diana is truly an “Angel in Action!”
